Sessions & Devices
If you ever lose a device or suspect someone signed in as you, sign out everywhere to invalidate every active session except this one.
Two-Factor Authentication
Require a one-time code from your authenticator app whenever you sign in.
Highly recommended for accounts connected to student data. Two-factor is on the roadmap and will appear here when it is ready.
Danger zone
Deleting your account permanently removes your tests, class reports, and student data. This cannot be undone, so account deletion is handled personally; email and it will be processed within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I create my first test?
You have three options:
- Browse the Library: ready-made TEKS-aligned tests, click to launch in one tap
- Create a test from a passage: paste any passage and the AI generates STAAR-style questions
- Upload an existing test: PDF or image of a test you already have
How do students join a test?
When you open a test, it gets a 6-character code (like
UFMTFG). Students go to thetestthattalksback.com/join, enter the code, and type the name you want to see them as in your reports (usually first name + last initial). No student accounts. No emails. No passwords for students. Ever.
What’s the difference between Coach, Assist, and Independent mode?
These are the three teacher-controlled coaching modes:
- Coach: full PROVE prompts, nudges, and step-by-step scaffolding. Best for early practice when students are learning the strategy.
- Assist: lighter prompts. Students still see the PROVE structure but get less hand-holding. Best once they know the steps.
- Independent: no scaffolding. Students do PROVE with no prompts at all. Best for assessment days when you want to see what they can do on their own.
Can I turn off some of the PROVE letters?
Yes. In test settings, you can toggle any of P, R, O, V, or E on or off. Useful if you only want students practicing Verify and Explain on a specific test, or if you want a quicker low-stakes run with just O / V. The tool adapts the flow automatically.
What data do you collect from students?
Only what students type into the tool during a test: the name you tell them to use, their PAT list, their R/D labels, their evidence, and their explanations. We do not collect student emails, ages, grades, passwords, biometric data, or anything else. Students don’t have accounts. See the FERPA section of our legal page for the full breakdown.
The AI feedback my students got was vague. How do I get more specific feedback?
The PROVE engine is built to give specific, text-grounded feedback; it should never say things like “try again” or “look more carefully.” If you see feedback that feels vague, please email me a screenshot with the test code and question number. I review every report of this kind personally and tune the system. The system was specifically designed to fix this problem; if it’s slipping in any context, I want to know.
How do I read my class report?
From My Tests, click any test row. Your report opens with:
- Overview snapshot: how many students joined and submitted, average PROVE score, average accuracy
- PROVE Breakdown: which step (P, R, O, V, E) your class struggled with most
- Auto-Groups: students grouped by where they got stuck, so you know who needs which type of reteach
- Question-by-question: per-question breakdown of choices students made and the evidence they cited
Can I edit a test after I’ve created it?
Yes, as long as no students have started taking it. Once a session is in progress, the test locks to preserve data integrity. If you need to edit a locked test, close it first, duplicate it, edit the duplicate, and reopen with a new code.
What if students need to come back to finish a test later?
Their progress saves automatically. They re-enter the same code, type the same name you assigned them, and pick up where they left off: same question, same PAT list, same evidence already typed. Works across class periods, devices, and even between days as long as the test is still open.
How do I share a test with my grade team?
Cross-teacher sharing is coming with Campus and District plans. For now, anyone with the join code can have their students take the same test, but the results show up under whoever created it. If you and a grade-level partner want shared reports, that’s a sign your campus is ready for a Campus license. Email me and I’ll send pricing.
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
On the sign-in page, click Forgot password? below the password field. Enter your email and we’ll send you a reset link. Check your spam folder if it doesn’t arrive in a minute. If you’re on a
.gov or .edu address with strict spam filtering, ask your IT department to whitelist notifications@thetestthattalksback.com.
Is PROVE it! a TEKS-based tool?
The question library is built around the same reading and language arts skills assessed by STAAR (TEKS-aligned), and you can filter the library by TEKS code. The PROVE framework itself is content-agnostic; it works for any rigorous multiple-choice reading or revising/editing test, but every test in our library aligns to a specific TEKS skill.
Can I export my data?
Yes. From any class report you can export student responses as CSV. Full account-wide exports are available on request; email me and I’ll send your full data within 24 hours.
Something is broken. What should I include in my support email?
Three things help me fix it fast:
- A screenshot of what went wrong (most important)
- The test code and question number if it’s a specific question
- What browser and device the student or you were on (Chrome on iPad, Safari on Mac, etc.)
